Tech Logic Enhances Power of CircIT Self-Checkout Software

White Bear Lake, MN - February 5, 2008 - Today, Tech Logic released Version II of CircIT, its feature rich self-checkout software.

Tech Logic released the first version of CircIT in mid-2007. CircIT powers Tech Logic's self-checkout products, providing unlimited HTML customization options for patron screens. CircIT is a dedicated Web server system that integrates with a library's automation system for circulation, reports, and RFID tag read/write functions. CircIT functions with both RFID tags and barcodes.

CircIT Version II adds two new checkout processes to make self-checkout even faster and easier for patrons.

"Instant Checkout" uses new color coding to immediately signal successful checkouts of multiple items when a patron places them on the RFID antenna. Items on the screen turn from yellow to green to indicate successful checkout and de-activation of the items' theft bits. Both actions - checkout and deactivation - appear on just one screen, making self-checkout as fast as possible.

"Hybrid Checkout" works with both RFID tags and barcodes simultaneously. A pad under the barcode scanner allows CircIT to detect tagged items and to deactivate theft bits. Onscreen color coding changes prompt the patron to remove items from the pad. Hybrid Checkout provides the same self-checkout process for both barcoded and RFID tagged items, so the patron is unaware if an item doesn't actually have security. Again, these actions occur on one screen for fast checkout.

Security for items with duplicate RFID tags is no problem for the new CircIT. CircIT identifies both RFID tags, but treats them as one. It disables the theft bits for both tags during checkout. CircIT also handles security for checkout and checkin for RFID tags that have no written barcode (a "0" barcode). With CircIT Version II, staff members can propagate screens using the enter, backspace, escape, or spacebar keys. CircIT now also features clipboard functionality. Staff can copy and paste a patron ID for use in the ILS client interface.

In addition, CircIT now supports Canadian currency.
