UltraSort: Sorting for Large Libraries
The UltraSort premium sorting system is engineered to meet the needs of busy libraries that require customized conveyance, multiple book drop induction points, and an array of sorting options.
UltraSort incorporates bin sorting using Tech Logic's patented Smart Bins®, book placer systems that sort items directly onto book trucks, and loader/unloader docking stations for induction of interagency transfers.
UltraSort uses large scale horizontal and vertical conveyors. These conveyors are able to feed items from a ground floor book drop into a library's sorting room on another floor as needed, making it possible to transport items from any location in the library to wherever the sort room is located.
Your UltraSort can be designed in almost any configuration to accommodate a current or planned building.
UltraSort System Components
Smart Storage with Smart Bins
Smart Bins® are wheeled bins that contain an automatic floor controlled by a photoelectric eye that detects the presence or absence of items. These bins are easy to load and unload, because the floor of the bin rises or lowers depending on the level of items inside, maintaining an ergonomically-constant level. In an UltraSort system, when the Smart Bin® reaches its destination, the bin's contents are checked in automatically, within seconds. This batch-transit check-in speeds up the operations at distribution centers and branch and mini-branch locations.
Loader/Unloader
A loader/unloader is a device added to the sorting system that acts as an overflow buffer. It is comprised of a conveyor belt assembly and a Smart Bin®. When the system is paused or busy processing items on the line shaft, items can be unloaded into a loader/unloader and loaded back on the line shaft when the system is available again. When in Load mode, the floor of the 125 model Smart Bins® automatically moves up to load items onto Tech Logic's patented de-shingling belts, where they are separated and transported to the sorting system.
Convenience of Hands-Free Book Drop Systems
Tech Logic's exterior hands-free book drops have an air operated door that automatically opens when a patron places items near it. The book drops allow staff to easily retrieve returned items. These book drops are not only convenient for staff, but patrons of all ages find them easy to use.
Fire Suppression System
In connection with the hands-free book drops, Tech Logic's fire suppression system eliminates the fire hazards associated with book returns. It prevents any objects that are on fire from entering the library through the book drop.
Tech Logic Conveyors
Tech Logic's conveyor belt systems powerfully illustrate the company's ability to answer your library's material handling needs in the best possible way.
Our conveyor belts are an important part of AST systems, as they offer features that ensure excellent performance. Our belt conveyors operate smoothly with very little noise. They are specially fabricated to ensure maintenance-free use. Tech Logic's de-shingling belt conveyors separate stacks of books, preventing pileups that would slow the system or damage items. This patented process means that items are separated before they enter the sorting section.
Tech Logic also offers vertically inclined or declined belt conveyors that fit in small closets and areas, maximizing your library space for other uses.
Book Placer Systems
Tech Logic's placer systems help get books to where they need to be. Our placer systems are designed to check in books and sort them onto book carts. All that your staff members have to do is replace full book carts with empty ones, and bring the cart to the shelves. The system can read barcode or RFID technologies. The system recognizes, tracks, and sorts the books by collection code, so they are shelf-ready. The placer systems move exceptions into bins (for example, books on hold) for staff review.
The Tilter Placer: A Smooth Mover
Automatic cart tilters elevate book carts at a selected angle relative to placer system. The placer is then positioned adjacent to a selected shelf of the cart, where it automatically pushes a library item onto the book cart shelf. The tilter holds the cart at an angle to cause books to lie tightly against each other to form a neat stack that maximizes the cart's useable space.
