About Barcodes, Tech Logic, and RFID
Tech Logic's systems are designed to use barcodes or RFID tags, or both. The latter is especially true in the case of libraries that are transitioning from barcodes to RFID tags.
If your library uses the barcode system, you can still take advantage of Tech Logic's self-checkout systems. However, we recommend that you consider replacing your barcodes with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, if possible. This is because of the incredible speed and convenience RFID technology offers libraries.
Implementing RFID: A Case Study

The staff of Broward County Library was kind enough to share their outline for implementing RFID. Please note that each library is unique and our publishing this outline in no way implies that Tech Logic is instructing your library to use the methods used by Broward.
Why should your library consider RFID technology? RFID technology:
- Increases the speed and efficiency of checkout and checkin operations. RFID tags don't need to be visible to be read, so books and other media can be identified quickly - and in any orientation.
- Detection and identification is quick and easy. No more fumbling with items to find and scan barcodes. With barcode detection technology, you have to scan each item during checkout. RFID technology enables you to read multiple items simultaneously - an incredible timesaver!
- Can help you easily find misshelved items using Tech Logic's Wand Style RFID Hand-Held Reader.
- Decreases theft issues. Each RFID tag includes a security theft bit chip, making items much more difficult to steal. As items are checked in and out, the security bit is turned on and off automatically. No more having to manually sensitize and desensitize magnetic security strips!
Tech Logic offers RFID tags, conversion services, turnkey hardware, installation, training, and support. However, if it's necessary for your library to use the barcode system, you can still enjoy the benefits of Tech Logic's systems.
