"One of our most wonderful pieces of technology and innovation happens to be the Tech Logic Sorting System, as well as out on the floor we have seven areas of self-check out. Starting with the self-checkout unit, our patrons have been completely overwhelmed with the technology that the self-checkout unit brings to our library. They love to be able to fend for themselves and be able to use the machine -- using with privacy. Sometimes patrons don't necessarily want the entire circulation desk staff to know what they are checking out. Other people just like the speed and ease of being able to come into the library and serve themselves. The self-checkout units have really become one of our patrons' favorite points of our brand new $30 million library.

"Another great feature that we have installed is a medium IQ Delivery System. This delivery system has really caused so much stir within the community. Our patrons are amazed with the technology -- the fact that they can just wave a book in front of our book drop door and it opens onto a conveyor belt system and the item is cleared. It really can be flooring for some people. We overall have had a wonderful response from our patron standpoint. From the staff standpoint, our circulation figures have just jumped leaps and bounds since moving into our new building. This has helped us tremendously dealing with increased workload."

"One of the benefits of having a new building and having space and resources is a jump, a huge jump in use and circulation. The unfortunate part is we got the new building, we got the books, we got the furniture, we got the facility but we did not get the additional money for operating costs or staff. So we had to find a way of managing increased business with our current staff. One of the ways we have done that is by implementing RFID technology and a new self-check system. We have four self-check stations in our library and all of our circulation is done on self-check. The public has just loved it. It's been easy to use. The RFID is really slick and the patrons have been really positive about it. The other thing that has really helped us is the Tech Logic Sortation System and the 24-hour hold delivery system. We have, as all libraries do, a lot of people that place reserves on materials. As our circulation has incresased, so has the use of holds and we did not have the space to store all of the holds or the staff to be able to retrieve the holds. The 24-hour holds machine is helping us do that. It also makes the hold system available 24-hours a day. This has been a great help for our staff because we don't have to retrieve the holds and it is an added service to our pulic as well."

"On May 18th, we moved from a 2,400 square foot facility to the present 36,000 square foot facility. In that time our circulation has more than doubled. I don't know whether we could have handled everything if it wasn't for the Tech Logic automated check-out system that we have.The system makes it very easy for patrons to check themselves out just by putting their card in the card reader, their items on the antenna and touching a button on the screen. The staff particularly likes the system, especially when it comes to videos. We no longer have to open video cases to see what's inside; we can just read it on our screens. The system has really revolutionized our lives."
