Team Member Spotlight: Tracie Hanson

Tracie has been working with Tech Logic since 2007, totaling 18 years of service. As a General Manager, she wears many hats to keep the company moving forward, overseeing daily operations. She is deeply committed to the company’s mission, its people, and the library communities Tech Logic serves. With a grounded, family-first approach both professionally and personally, Tracie is a huge asset to the Tech Logic team.

To help us get to know Tracie, we asked her a few questions:

How did you get started at Tech Logic?

I had a friend that was the Customer Care manager at Tech Logic; she reached out to me and asked if I was still thinking about getting back into the workforce after several years running my own promotions company.  At that time, the market had changed and business was slowing down, so I had to consider working for a company again.  I was reluctant to accept a position in the customer care department as I knew nothing about RFID, automation, or the library industry.  I remember her words to this day: “You may not know the technology or the industry, but I know you and your work ethic. You can do this.” That was 18 years ago!

Where did you work prior to Tech Logic?

I worked for myself for several years while raising my kids. The flexibility was exactly what I needed at the time being a single mom and businesswoman.

Could you describe to us your role at Tech Logic?

As General Manager at Tech Logic, I am involved in just about every aspect of the company. I oversee the company’s daily operations across multiple departments to ensure each team has what they need to successfully perform their roles within the company. I serve as an internal resource for communication between teams as well as customers. Tech Logic is a small family owned, family run business and, as General Manager, I wear many hats within the company that may not technically fall under the General Manager role. I do whatever is necessary to keep the company moving forward for success, continued growth, and profitability.

What have you learned in your time with Tech Logic?

Over the last 18 years working at Tech Logic, I have learned so much about RFID technologies, library workflows, automation, and customer service/expectations. I have also learned a lot about myself. I have learned that I value resilience, loyalty, sense of family in the workplace, teamwork, collaboration, overcoming obstacles, challenging myself to improve, working with customers to resolve their issues or needs, task managing, and learning new technologies, but most of all helping our team and customers to deliver the best experience possible. I really love where I work and what I do. I’m very blessed.

Why are libraries essential for communities?

Libraries are so much more than a free resource, for books, media, computers etc. The Library is the essential community hub that serves patrons with lifelong learning, educational programs, resume workshops, study spaces, cafés, free wi-fi, safety from the elements, school support, tax preparation…the list is endless. This is all provided to communities for FREE. It’s outstanding!!! Libraries and library staff have been called to a higher calling to selflessly serve their community. Their work is remarkable, important, and commendable. This is one of my favorite quotes: “The only thing you absolutely have to know is the location of the library.”  —Albert Einstein

What do you think sets Tech Logic apart from other library technology companies?

Tech Logic is a family-owned privately-held company that has been in the library space for over 50 years with our parent company, The Library Corporation. Tech Logic pioneered automation in the library space over 25 years ago and has only served libraries its entire time in business. Tech Logic brings unmatched products to the industry and exemplifies the meaning of customer service; our customers are our main priority because without you there is no us! Tech Logic continually works on ways to upgrade existing systems with new technologies to protect our customers' investments. Tech Logic has systems that have been in operation for decades that are still running. I know we are the only library technology company that can make that claim. We may not be the cheapest in the industry, but we are the BEST!

Outside of work, what would you like to share about yourself?

I am a mom to three incredible kids and two granddaughters (number three on the way). Outside of work I am most proud of being a mom, significant other, daughter, and Grammie.  Something I think those who know me would be surprised to know is I am a huge introvert after work and on the weekends. I enjoy going straight home, staying home in my quiet house with no plans but watching a show/movie, listening to music, playing cribbage, working in the yard, working on a home project or simply relaxing. I also enjoy going up north to our lake home to spend winter days in front of a cozy fire along with some snowmobiling. Summer days will find me on the pontoon or in the water with my grandkids. Whenever our family joins us in either location my life is happy and full.

Tech Logic connects libraries with their communities through dynamic, innovative, and efficient workflow technologies—delivering unparalleled service and outstanding patron experience. Since 1997, we have worked exclusively with libraries to develop solutions that empower library patrons and staff.
